I have been working as a skim coater for the past three years alongside my studies, and I find myself wanting to understand the emotional reality of this work beyond what technical training teaches us. Could anyone in this occupation share a single day, whether exceptionally difficult or genuinely rewarding, that has stayed with them over time? I am particularly interested in how a moment on the job reshaped the way you think about the work itself. My background is in hospitality, so I tend to evaluate every role through the lens of sustained human effort under pressure, and I would be grateful for any perspective that goes beyond the procedural.

yeah same experience here. I was doing skim coating in a small crew in Galway for about eight months and there was this one afternoon where we had to redo an entire ceiling because the first pass dried wrong, and the foreman just stood there and said nothing, just handed me the trowel again. that moment stuck with me because it taught me the work is less about technique and more about patience under pressure, which honestly maps onto hospitality more than people think.
