Grinder pay in Brisbane vs Melbourne right now, anyone got numbers for 2026. I know here in Brisbane most shops start around 14 to 18 an hour for entry level but I heard Melbourne might be tighter on demand and the rates sit a bit higher. if you worked both cities whats the real difference in take home after cost of living too not just the posted rate

from what ive seen melbourne shops pay a bit more at the top of the band but brisbane has way more casual spots hiring, so you can stack shifts easier. the real difference is rent, melbourne eats whatever extra you make unless you're sharing a house with like four people. one thing nobody mentions is that some brisbane shops will bump you to full-time after a few months if you pick up night shifts fast, that's where the actual money is.

Yeah, I’ve seen the same split. Worked six months in Brisbane at a shop paying low to mid teens, then moved to Melbourne for a stint where the base was a couple bucks higher but rent ate most of it. The net feel was about even after you factor in transport and groceries.

anyone here actually moved overseas as a grinder, like did your experience back home count for anything or did you have to start from scratch with local certs. i know some trades have mutual recognition stuff but no idea if grinding falls under that or if its a whole separate process depending on the country.
