I keep hearing people say AI is going to eat emergency services alive by 2029 and I just. don't buy it. Logisitcs saw drones, route optimisation, automated warehouses, and yeah that changed things but the humans still run the show. So. how does that break down for firefighting specifically right now in 2026. Like is the station I volunteer at in GB going to look radically different in three years because of some AI dispatch system or predictive modelling or is the actual job on the ground still going to need someone standing there breathing smoke and making calls no algorithm can. I've seen a few articles about thermal imaging drones and predictive fire spread software being rolled out in some London crews but nobody talks about whether that means fewer firefighters or just different firefighters. For those of you already in the job in 2026, does AI feel like its reshaping the role from the inside or is it just another piece of kit you pick up for certain calls.

Everyone keeps saying firefighting is this stable, future-proof career but has anyone actually looked at how much of the role is changing with drone surveillance, predictive dispatch systems and risk modelling software? Feels like the "you'll always be needed" advice might be overselling it a bit. Am I wrong, or is the job not quite as future-proof as people make out?
