My uncle's been doing fiber splicing for years and I used to help him on weekends back home, pulling cable through these old buildings where the ceilings are so low you're basically crawling the whole day. I liked it more than I expected, something about the precision of it, getting the light levels right on the tester and knowing it's clean. I've been running containment and traying for a company in Birmingham for about a year now, decent money for the hours, but I keep hearing that specialist splicing and commissioning side of things opens up way more doors. Is it actually worth chasing that route, like are there specific certifications or would you just learn it on the job because my uncle never had formal qualifications for it, he just picked it up.
