People keep saying print work is dying and you should switch to something more stable, but is that actually true on the ground, or just online noise.

yeah, I hear that a lot too. I spent about six months working in a small print shop in Hamilton a few years back, and the owner was still busy enough to keep two of us on steady. People act like everything's gone digital, but there's still demand for physical prints, event materials, packaging stuff. It's not glamorous, but it's not dead either.
